Extra * (except task switcher button) are really useful. Good mouse, many customizable * make this product a versatile tool. When configuring the mouse, modify the * to any keystroke, even combinations of keystrokes.
It's benefitted me greatly. It is definately worth your money! The logitech mx 500 and its subsequent updates (mx 510, mx 518, g400s) are the best gaming mice i've ever used.
An optical mouse like the mx500 would more than suffice for the rest of us. It moves smooth on the mousepad and many other surfaces. It works cleanly on a mouse pad or most no pad surfaces.

The logitech mouse is a real bargain. This mouse is the greatest. It's a steal. This is one of a few purchases that convinced me to only place an order when it's fulfilled by amazon.
Cons
The pointer is erractic (quivering, shaking pointer with ghost images flashing behind it) and the software is extremely buggy. I hope future reviews enlighten us with the answer to the age-old question, who is listening to the customer?

Great product, bought this one to replace the(same) one i have had for 15 years.
The mouse is very precise, fast, and the ergonomic design makes it a pleasure to use.
The last one i had only 2 months before it broke.
Never malfunctioned on me even after i dropped it many times.
Price
The logitech mouse is a real bargain.

I would reccomend this mouse over any other mouse in the market.
The logitech mx 500 and its subsequent updates (mx 510, mx 518, g400s) are the best gaming mice i've ever used.
Overall, however, it is far superior to the microsoft product and i would definitely recommend it.

While working on the mouse for extended periods and on a daily basis is still damaging no matter what mouse you use the mx500 is a solid choice to help minimize this damage without getting into the more expensive gaming style mice

I find myself making some use of the forwardback buttons though the fact that they only work on web browsers and not programs like adobe acrobat is a little irritating likewise the pageuppagedown buttons dont actually mimic the pageuppagedown buttons on most keyboards but instead mimic pressing the up or down arrow many times
