At max volume they are very loud and i use them at about mid volume depending on the dvd for watching dvds

The reason is that on the odd occasion maybe once every hour the speakers may crackle a little bit and this can distract you from watching something or maybe you wont hear what someone has just said in a dvd or something but honestly its not too bad

All that said i would highly recommend these speakers to anyone that needs a cheap pair of speaker to go with a new monitor or just that you need them elsewhere in your home as the crackle doesnt put me off them that much

At low volume they have a reasonable sound quality but as youd expect for small speakers they lack much base

Sound quality falls off rapidly as you turn them up past about a quarter of the way and is very distorted at the top of the range but it is plenty loud enough for music listening at the computer at the lower end of the volume range which is still quite loud
