Pros & Cons
Pros
John green’s perennial bestseller looking for alaska is at once hilarious, engaging, and tragic. I love how john green refuses to conform and just goes for it.
The novel splits miles’ life into what is described as “time before and after a life-changing event”. The author causes us to contemplate life, death and how we choose to respond to both of these ideas. Pranks and risky behavior become the norm.
Author john green does a great job formulating and solidifying pudge and his friends.
Cons
When the catastrophic event finally hits, i’m already over it. Blah blah blah.
Until the aftermath chapters, the story slogs along at a snail’s pace. At the end of both books, the tale of the girl and her friends just seems unfinished at best. Even the parts that are supposed to be intense are predictable.
The chances of finding a group of millennials who all have impressive academic hobbies such as this are slim to none. Then it’s nothing but chain-smoking, esoteric musings of ‘escaping the labyrinths’.
Highlights
Quality
I originally thought this book would be quite cheesy but was pleasantly surprised.
Price
Is a quick read and a great story about idolization and self reflection.
Competitiveness
It’s the kind of unputdownable book that changes you on the other side.
