Pros & Cons
Pros
The door to the wayward children novella is a wonderful introduction to a new character and her doors. This story starts to explain the lore behind the doors, or at least that there is lore and reason and an edge of consistency.
I hurt for every wayward but antsy’s story broke me in a way that no other has.
The book includes a trigger warning up front for the content that requires it. It's a rapid paced single sitting read but is comprehensive as to antsy’s journey. It is fantasy as parable and i was deeply moved.

Highlights
Quality
Mcguire continues to dazzle with the wayward children series.
It will be interesting to see how mcguire ends the series with the ninth and final entry in the series.
Price
There is a price to pay for everything, and she eventually learns what price she has been paying for being in her safe haven.
The price is high, and it cost her something she can never get back.
Competitiveness
Thank you to the author, seanan mcguire, the narrator, jesse vilinsky, macmillan audio, and netgalley for the arc.
The fairy tale vibes are in full force, and i love the way seanan mcguire includes these fantastical elements with darker consequences.
Thank you to seanan mcguire for the content warning at the beginning of the book.
