This may be for accomodating a fully loaded dutybattle belt and carrier and some people may prefer it to be out that wide depending on their intended use

In my opinion black is only good for law enforcement training sport shooting or if youre one of those poor souls who kits themselves out in all ninja black tacticool only to later realize that wearing black is like a a giant neon billboard sign with a bullseye on it and then having to either custom camo or replace all their gear with lower vis stuff
