It beats any knife in our block. Believe the hype.
The santoku knife is worth twice what you will pay for it. With proper care (hand clean, no dishwasher) this knife will be around longer than you are.
This knife is my go to tool for most slicing/chopping jobs. I use it for everything, except when cutting large starchy vegetables. The curved cutting-edge allows you to mince stringy food very finely.
Highlights

This is an excellent tool made from quality hard steel.

Packaging/appearance
The packaging is lovely too and perfect for giving the knife as a knife.
It came in a handsome gift box, and my boyfriend loved opening it on christmas morning.
This knife comes boxed in an elegant package typical of japanese aesthetics.
Take it out of the beautiful box and drop a grape on it.
Competitiveness
I have more expensive japanese damascus knives but i grab this one first.
A giant step up and above the well known , high end, german makers we are so familiar with in speciality and retail stores.
You cannot find a better santoku for the money.
While expensive compared to many knives on the market, this is the real deal when it comes to getting a professional level kitchen knife.
