In the extreme cold the springs that release the clamp as well as the gears that tighten the clamp get very stiff and almost unusable

In order for it to be really stable you have to turn the collar to extend the sides to grip the inside of the cup holder but if you over tighten it will strip inside the unit and then it will always be loose

Expanding base means it stays secure in my vehicles cup holder and will likely fit almost any vehicle with this design
