There are no instructions telling you which direction to insert them but if you look in the hole you can see the spring at the bottom

Push it twice and the side bar of the flashlight illuminates a bright white light and the flashlight turns off

It runs on 3 aaa batteries which you put in by unscrewing the base

Three were fine but one was flawed you had to twist the end cap to a precise position for the flashlight to work

If you twisted it a little too far or not far enough it wouldnt light
