Pros

Riordan weaves mythology in ways so that it is easily accessible to young readers. This is another series along the same vein by the same author, just based on norse mythology this time. I do like the percy jackson series better - it's less disjointed... Read More

The story gets cooking, and the stilted manner the first book slightly struggled with is gone. This is one of few that show a larger demographic of kids their own story. Came in a clean box, wasn't dented or anything.

My favorite part of this book is alex fierro. Alex brings some fire to the fight and is a breath of sarcastic, angry air. It builds the characters nicely, although i want more of alex's backstory.

Cons

Audiobooks are for easy listening and this is definitely not it. Disappointing for student. Missing a bunch of pages is apparently a common occurrence.

This book is more of a meh to me. Then they begin the overt indoctrination. This one is so heavy-handed on the politically correct messaging that it would make a puppy cry.

Until this week, i would have been fine recommending this book to my kids. I am not interested in discussing a romance between a male character and one whose gender changes by the day. The percy jackson series is much more better.

Totally ship alex and magnus so really hope they end up together.

Packaging/appearance

It is a hardcover and arrived in great condition, very pleased with the purchase

Came in a clean box, wasn't dented or anything.

Otherwise it's pertty good and packed with action.

I audibly gasped when i opened the box because of how beautiful it was.

Competitiveness

It seems even stronger and more prevalent in the magnus chase series.

It's not riordan's best work, but that's a high bar to meet, and this is still much better than many other books i've read.
