Pros & Cons
Pros
This is the second heaviest-duty 7-1/4 saw that makita makes - the only one that's more burly is the 5377mg. Great sidewinder saw. Easy to handle saw, stable, accurate and the shoe is perfectly flat.
It's not light, but the balance is great and the cushioned handles make it easy and comfortable to hold. The dewalt would bog down a little while ripping thicker sheet goods. D light is awesome.
The box for storage is great. It has a place to store extra saw blades and keeps thing all nice and tidy. The only con, the ferrite choke on the power cord needs to be redesigned.
There are two kinds of circular the ones for wood that run at high rpm and low torque (like this one), and the ones. Freud makes for high-rpm wood saws. Makita magnesium with the electric brake is lighter, smoother, safer and with the right blade can ... Read More
Base plate has a lot of detail molded in it so putting holes in where the material was thicker taking a bit more work but worth the effort. The base plate is square to the saw blade allowing me to make straight cross cuts by using a 4' straight edge c... Read More
Cons
The connection of the saw motor to the footplate is flimsy. Edge of mag shoe plate way out of square with blade. Bevel set lever and guard lever bend easily.
The depth slide is anything but smooth. Poorly placed and crooked at that. One small pivot point on the front of the saw causes this. No adjustment possible, true position of brackets and mounting points all way off.
Highlights
Quality
Great feel and the on-board light is great for cutting on the inside of blade.
- good quality, rubbery cable that doesn't go stiff in the cold.
Installed a freud 60 tooth ultimate plywood and melamine saw blade to rip and crosscut some oak plywood, and the pairing of the... Read More
Not one motor has failed even after extensive abuse
Price
Worked as expected and a fair price
I spent the extra $ and got the one with the electric brake.
The brake is a big plus - worth the extra $30
I believe it is a good value purchase.
Shipping
It arrived on time and i appreciate that and i used it to do my jobs great i love it.
The replacement wasn’t gonna arrive for at least 3 weeks so i decided to go with this makita instead.
Packaging/appearance
So, i took it out of it's case and placed it in my tool cabinet.
Competitiveness
I always liked the handle placement of makita saws over other brands.
+ hard case is included, so its ~$30 higher price point from competitors is a wash since you have to buy a hard case separately... Read More
I did a lot of research before buying, and had narrowed it down to this makita 5007mga and the milwaukee 6394-21.
