Pros
Makita hd77 is much lighter than the skil hd. It runs smooth, has plenty of power, and makes a straight cut. Only drawback is that the guard system cracked & flew off, took over 8 weeks for replacement parts to come in.
The 24t blade that comes with it is excellent. Used it to depth cut old flooring and underlayment for removal. Angle gauges & depth gauge seem to be very accurate. Blade bolt tool in the handle is a nice feature.
This saw is the cats pajamas. Very sturdy build.

This tool is outstanding. It's very durable.

Direct gear drives are always heavy, but this unit is properly balanced and well made.
Great saw, cuts straight with easy guide and has plenty of power.
The blade has loosened up one time while cutting stacked plywood before.
Struggled with burn outs, wandering cuts, lack of power was the main issue.
Price
Those $40 saw are complete garbage compared to this.
It is well worth the higher price.
You get more than you pay for - this can not be beat - period!

Lost shipment had to wait 5 days before reshipping.
Competitiveness
We have bosch and dewalt too, but this makita wins out.
The saw is shiny and has a different look when compared to other category rivals, and it is noisier that the mag 77.

When the saw is resting between cuts not stored its balance will tend to tilt the saw off of the table
