Pros & Cons
Pros
Seems pricey, but our business is creating lumber and we specialize in slabs and beams. Great job on 6-inch landscape timbers. Works good for glu-lams and smaller posts.
I only wish i had a straightedge for it to follow when cutting 45-degree angles. After struggling doing multiple cuts around the periphery of a 7 x 9 railroad tie with my 7 1/4 circular saw, i was informed by a coworker about this beast. To get a real... Read More
Strong motor and carbide tipped blade combination work like magic. Motor runs the saw at a lower rpm than i had expected, but has plenty of torque to cut full depth. Definitely need a freud or other carbide-tipped blade though.
When it's running, i have to readjust my grip so that i can hold the saw more comfortably. A clamp down guide is a must for such a big saw.
Other than the guard being a hassle on some cuts, this is a great saw for the price. I usually have helpers around since no one builds a timber frame alone so i have one of them lift the guard for me. Could use a strap to secure base to saw when movin... Read More
Cons
The design is basically as if someone just scaled up a 7. The adjustments for shoe height are a guessing game at best.
Highlights
Quality
My two biggest gripes are the safety release button and the blade guard.
Great for construction of log and rustic homes using large timbers
Once the blade dulls it starts to wobble and give poor results.
This saw made the slickest cuts i've ever made.
Price
For the price, this is an awesome saw.
The price was by far the best i could find and i really appreciate that as all my tools and trailer were stolen off my jobsite
Don't know if this has been used yet or not but the price was great
I purchased this as a warehouse sale.
Packaging/appearance
Much bigger than you think, when i removed the saw from the box i was really amazed.
Competitiveness
This is a money-maker and a big time saver for us; and the results are far superior to trying to line up two opposing cuts.
If you want to cut 3 by and 4by stock for the money this is the one ive these saws since makita first came out with them , coul... Read More

Compared to the 220 vac commercial saws this saw can do the same tasks, a little slower, but only needs 110 vac.
