Pros & Cons
Pros
The japanese wood planer has a very sharp blade. It works well on timber with difficult grain directions and knots. I just wish it would work with the newer carbide blades.
Highlights
Quality
I go cross-grain first to take out the warp and width differences, then with the grain for the final finish.
I struggled with the dewalt battery-powered planer, which was so bad i returned it and got this instead.
I'd buy it again, but i shouldn't have to, it's build quality is very high.
However, it's made with the stickiest rubber i've ever seen in a power cord.
Shipping
I'd say that the shipping package was entirely inappropriate for such a heavy item.
The wooden box that houses the tool and accessories is sturdy, but the interior blocks were dislodged in shipping.
Packaging/appearance
Mine was dead-on right out of the box, no adjustments needed (but check anyway).
It is out of the way enough to avoid accidental engagement.
Competitiveness
I'm sure the competitors tool will do the job, just not sure of the longevity.
A way to direct the chips would be a welcome improvement, but this is a small inconvience.
I look at the market and noticed an offering from a competitor for half the price.
There’s not much on the market that’s comparable.

Im sure this was an engineering decision because if it clogged up it could cause damage to the planer but this will make a mess in your shop and be sure to wear breathing protection
