All in all, it's a durable, quality machine that's changed little over the years.

Well worth it very happy as i usually am with most makita products
I see no need to purchase a high-end mortiser (swisspro, hema) unless you're a professional timber framer.

My advice is to let the weight of the machine do the working and not force it into the beams

In a blind mortise the bottom will be rounded you have to cut down about 1

It also will cut lap joints for the tenon but this is more difficult to set up

It was delivered with a broken handle and some brackets bent up

Amazon was of no help but the local makita service center is trying to get the parts replaced

Its tricky getting the tension just right too tight and youll scar the timber and throw the bar out of square from the mortise too loose and the machine can jump around which is potentially dangerous
