Pros & Cons
Pros
It's not a replacement for a full size vacuum, but it has a lot of utility because of its size and portability. The convenience of this, in the same battery ecosystem as my makita cordless power tools, is great. Battery life is acceptable.
Light, easy to handle, hepa filter that seems to function as rated. Appears to be thoughtfully designed and works well. Only con is that you have to keep the filter clean or else it looses suction fast.
My old dyson handheld, you know the ones that never lose suction, would clog up within a few minutes of cleaning up the daily mess, so i sprung for this one. The suction power is great. Two power modes provides enough suction to pick up most things. T... Read More
Cons
The switch makes a beep when you turn it on, but the vacuum does not activate. If you hold the handle in your hand while vacuuming the floor and you push off on the handle it collapses and crushes your fingers. On a scale to 0 to 10, this makita vacuu... Read More
The crevice tool has 2 bizarre holes in it. It has to be removable so you can replace the batteries. Handy for sawdust and masonry on the smallest of jobs only.
Shop vac has great portability but poor suction. Short hose means you have to carry it in one hand and vacuum with the other. Hepa filter cuts down on suction when it gets wet.
For us makita fans this one is a dissapointment. This one is an abomination of satan. What a waste. This vacuum is a huge disappointment.
Save your makita bucks for something else. This portable shop vacuum is not worth anywhere near the $225 price i paid. Replacement motor control unit is about $75 not including shipping.
Highlights
Quality
Very well built, quality you would expect from makita.
Makita quality which is great, uses makita batteries.
I would not buy again not enough suction , cumbersome
It was still working perfectly until it disappeared (it was either stolen or the wind blew it off the dock.
Price
Little pricey but paying for convenience rather than performance here
I just think it’s a little pricey for what it is.
Competitiveness
)of course it helps a great deal if you're already invested in makita tools and thus have a cache of batteries.
Wish it had a little more suction compared to the milwaukee 18v
Unfortunately makita doesn't make all dust ports the same size so this will fit some (like makita planer & router with the larg... Read More

I dont even know what the low power setting would be useful for except maybe as dust collection via attachment to a saw or something like that where it doesnt have to do a lot of work and max run time would be useful

Because the good news is its not like battery power is a major concern at least with the 5ah battery
