Pros
Quick connect hose outlet end connector (36918-12) other than that, my only complaint about the grinder is that the power on/off switch is a bit tough to use at times. Plan on using a scrap piece of garden hose and hose clamp to rig the water feeder.
The grinder works really well. I would recommend testing the buffing pads on a peice of scrap granite or marble tile. The 50 grit is pretty aggressive and you may spend extra time buffing out scratches.
The variable speed dial is great. This makes the polisher much easier to move around and is less tiring. Soft start, so it doesn't jolt in your hand when you turn it on. Spindle lock, the most wonderful thing known to man.
Water supply hookup is a minor detail.
Control flow at the valve on the machine. It has a flexible rubber splash guard on the back. A squeegie quickly wipes the water away to see what your doing.
Cons
The spring on the switch lever is also rusting. Why makita doesn't use stainless steel for small inexpensive parts is a mystery. It spits out so much water you feel like you are drowning.

It's quality is great and so far has held up to my abuse.

For what this thing costs, makita should include the adapter.
Competitiveness
I owned an off-brand wet grinder/polisher for a number of years until the gears stripped.
I would recommend this polisher to the professional as well as the novice.
Otherwise, start with a cheapy one and see if that will be enough to get you by.

You can find a quick connect kit at lowes or home depot for less than ten dollars but if youre like me and dont like the hassle of maneuvering a bulky garden hose you can opt to use a ten foot nylon reinforced ice maker supply line

A 18 to 14 fitting replaces the quick connect and there is a 14 male to female hose connection available at lowes
