Pros & Cons
Pros
Only negative issue is that the sub-base plate opening is small. I have a small cnc router table (17 x 17 x 3) that had a dremel advantage on it. It took some work to get it set up on the bench dog router table--since this is otherwise the ideal route... Read More
The powerful 2 1/4 hp motor is very strong,so hold on tight when you have the rpms set high. It runs quite smoothly. This router gets run hard and cuts through some big jobs with ease.
This is the 2nd rf1101 we've bought. The first workhorse lasted for years (approx 7 years in commercial use). It's just as good as the first.
It's much quieter and smoother than any router i've used in the past. Not as quiet as the * or as powerful as the porter cable monsters, but it works. It is very quiet even under load.
Cons
There were no collet wrenches with the router. The spindle nut above the collet nut is very narrow and the wrench slipped off too easily.
Makita rf1101 model number was listed as a compatible model for my table. I am very disappointed that this apparent design flaw makes it useless to me and will be replacing it with a different make and model router. I have quite a few routers, all dif... Read More
Highlights
Quality
Great router and i would recomend to any one looking for a well built and powerfull router to use nay size bit they please.
Well built, quiet, and powerful enough to do more than what plan on using it for.
The threads are seizing and it requires a lot of force to unscrew the collet.
The locking mechanism can be finicky, as it can throw off your setting if you don't hold the base and motor when you clamp it down.
Price
Or charge $5 more and supply two separate base plates with smaller and larger diameter center holes.
Be aware that will be an added cost.
Price was not a consideration and would have paid whatever it took to get the best router.
Shipping
It immediately went to my router table and i was in business in just a few minutes.
I called customer support and they shipped one out to me right away.
Did a second pass through the makita specs after the router arrived.
Packaging/appearance
I cannot complain about its operational capabilities but everything from packaging to the tool external finish does not match m... Read More
Competitiveness
I think this router is great compared to the others on the market today.
It may be a little more expensive than comparable routers but i think that the makita quality, versatility, and adaptability is worth it.
It costs a few bucks more than competitors, but replacing a single bearing on popular routers is over $100.
Second thoughtsan issue that applies to most router vendors including the makita.
