Pros & Cons
Pros
The makita is well made, easy to use, smooth and accuarate. It cuts first at 3 centimeters prior to full cut to eliminate chipping. For some reason i feel it runs smoother on the makita guide than the powertec guide.
Dust collection is good when hooked to a shop vac. Doggone, that is the best collection bag i've ever dreamed of. Great accessories to go with it, a square guide from a company like tso.
The plunge cut function is very smooth and almost would say too smooth and could have a bit more resistance. Used it to break down full and smaller sheets of plywood. Cuts a glassy smooth surface. Use primarily for 2” wood slabs and other thick boards... Read More
The track is reliable and the soft start on the saw really improves confidence that the track is reliably still where you put it. That's when i stumbled on plunge/track saws - i have no idea why they aren't more common.
This saw barely bogged down. Made in england. Straight line rips on rough lumber. A very slick and accurate saw with no sins.
Cons
The depth adjuster does not work properly. Even with adjustment it cuts at a negative angle that cannot be corrected with the angle adjustment. Saw makes a strange sound when attached.
Highlights
Quality
Easy to use, accurate cutting and weight is easy on the arms
I use this for solid surface countertop manufacturing and it has worked excellent, butter smooth cuts and no complaints!
Before i was able to determine this, i experienced cutting resistance, burning, and a ragged cut.
If i already had makita batteries, i likely would have gone for the battery version but after using it for a while the cord doe... Read More
Price
I bought an inexpensive rail square to help with that which works wonderfully.
This saw is pricey but it definitely makes easy work of cutting true and straight lines, especially for deck border boards.
Amazon rep offered me $20 credit pshaw the track costs $90 on their site!
I can't afford, nor do i have space for a table saw.
Shipping
Ordered again, let's see if the amazon folks understand this is 2 boxes that must be shipped
Received my makita 6000j track saw in a timely manner.
Amazon shipped out another order which arrived in perfect condition.
Packaging/appearance
The box that comes with the saw is also nice, and has a bit of extra room in it to hold a spare balde or two.
I had to square up a piece of 3/8” painted furniture grade plywood that arrived in a parallelogram shape from my cabinet company.
Competitiveness
In fact, this blade, along with the rubber strip on the rail prevents tear-out better than some of my very expensive blades use... Read More
That is much better than my table saw from bosch.
The sales price of the 6000j saw plus a 55” guide rail purchased separately was less expensive than when purchased as a combo p... Read More
I compared the makita to triton, dewalt, festool and kreg and found the makita to be the smoothest slider to use.
