Pros & Cons
Pros
I only wish i had purchased this chain saw sooner as the cost of renting it exceeded the cost. Got this to replace a gas chainsaw. Perfect for those who cut their wood large, then haul or drag it to where it's cut, split, and stacked.
Heavy duty, it's just as good as the gas saws, just has a chord! It is well balanced and a lot quieter than the gas chain saws. You start and stop by pressing the button.
Built our log cabin with it and sawed all our firewood for over 20 years with it. It cuts as good, if not slightly better, than gas chainsaws this size. This is especially useful if you have to make semi-precision cuts such as with railroad ties.
Not bad. The saw chip are now stringy and tends to clog up the saw, but it works.
The uc4030a chain tightening mechanism is a world apart from the stihl 380e mechanism which i always found to be marginally functional. Here is a link to the bar/chain combo:https://www. Amazon.
Highlights
Quality
Quality is much higher than electrics found in big box stores.
But, you can't beat the quality and speed of the cut compared to the nightmare of trying to keep a gas saw running.
A relatively new one's carb became gummed up with the ethanol-gas chemical reactions with the saws plastic.
The gearing/teeth in the brake drum wear down and provide nothing to interlock with the chain to propel it.
Price
The cost was great comparing to other stores, and i was happy for the added promotion that makita gave as well.
Yes, it's expensive, but well-worth the price.
Competitiveness
This is a great gas replacement saw when teamed with my 2000w honda generator.
If you want a replacement chain for the makita uc4030a saw, then get the oregon s56 16-inch semi chisel chain saw chain.

Mounting the bar and chain back in place is a little tricky because the bar falls off its mount quite easily and the chain tensioning mechanism needs to be adjusted to line up with the pinhole in the bar before the bar can be secured
