Pros & Cons
Pros
It's expensive vs the mass market machines, but i wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anyone looking to step up from say, a pc. It has some heft to it - using it for a while gives your arms a workout. Lightweight and runs smoothly.
Cons
Stains on it and scratches. This seems like a poor design.
Highlights
Quality
The build quality is pro-level, and it's smooth, powerful, and quiet.
I use chemical guys pads and product and am very happy with the makita as a one-machine compromise solution.
Price
The price is what it is because there are a lot of features and quality in this tool that knock offs will never have.
The initial cost is a little salty however the quality, build, and features of this buffer make it worth every penny spent.
Competitiveness
The makita 18v cordless polisher/buffer is made for car detailing professionals, however it is also great for weekend warriors like myself.
I cannot imagine trying to work on a challenging surface (angled or even vertical) while dragging a cumbersome heavy-duty cord.

On the other hand some detailing pros are going to find it kind of an odd duck too

Some will prefer a long throw da if they use one at all the makita is short throw some would only used forced rotation so would dismiss the unforced mode as pointless expense some might like the short throw unforced rotation for a few special purposes but use a straight rotary for cutting etc
