Pros
If you find these noisy in powerhead mode it's the suction from the top hose. They run silent and come in a variety of sizes and circulation output. It is a smidge louder than i would like, however it isn't too loud.
This pump is value priced and very powerful. It is somewhat heavier than my previous ones, i think that is a good sign. Secondly it is much better quality, right out of the box.
Cons
The mj-1200 sounds like a chainsaw when used as a circulation pump. Disassembled and checked twice everything is how it is supposed to be but impeller grinds either on shaft or housing. It feels like versatile means throw a bunch of mis-matched parts ... Read More
This is the first time i've received one that was covered in an obnoxious smelling oil that took twenty minutes of scrubbing, rubbing, rinsing to get off. Now it just sputters occasionally.
No adjustments for distance between tube and glass and suction cups. The plastic seems brittle and flimsy. The grill are too large.
The warranty is not the best as customer service was less than willing to send a pick-up slip. Seems marineland cares more about selling quantity then retaining their customers.

I did not know i could switch this between a powerhead and a wave maker with all the parts included.

My old pump died out after many years service i believe due to accidentally letting it run dry which you are not supposed to do

Yes you can find quieter pumps but my fish room is already noisy and these arent excessively loud at all unless they or their intake get clogged which is a heads up to fix that situation imo

The circulation mode also works fine in the one tank i use that in but i wouldnt buy this specifically for that application i just had a couple extras of these so i set one up for that and its adequate

I also don’t like powerheads that use suction cups because they fall off easily
