You can adjust the type of noise and its volume onboth sides of the machine and the onoff button is on the back

The other reviews were correct the sound is constant with absolutely no pauses or changes in sound

Alternatives are abound these days with several phone apps that provide a similar service however they often cant achieve the same volume or quality of sound as this dedicated device

Also it only makes screeching elecronic interference noises if you plug it in to a power strip or anything that isnt directly into the wall
