Pros & Cons
Pros
Seth pecksniff is the most perfect character to be found of all dickens' comic characters. Tom pinch is another character in a distinguished line of too good to be true dickensian personalities, but he is shown to suffer and grow into a believable hum... Read More
Nicely formatted. Easy to read. Well worth the read in spite of several lengthy ramblings. I read this many years ago and found it just as hysterically funny now as then.
Martin chuzzlewit takes its name from a very wealthy, old gentleman and his grandson. When the elder martin falls in love without his grandfather's consent, the subsequent breach leaves the way open for all the rest to try to flatter, sneak or threate... Read More
Cons
Amazon sent an abridged recorded book without notifying the customer. Long-winded writing is very annoying to me. Heavy-handed moralizing is irritating.
The book has a meandering plotline, anvilacious moralizing, clownish villains, and a celebration of everything rural and folksy. Thackeray was mean and sarcastic and didn't care who knew it.

John westlock and young martin chuzzlewit very similar in some ways but john is the nicer of the two at first at first as in he stays nice but martin junior has to deal with some elitism issues along the way

The two things in question though firstly i think it acts as pure padding with the original serialisation in mind and i also think its about dickens wanting to be honest in fiction and of course humour about the somewhat dubious principals displayed by most eminent us citizens at that time
