Pros & Cons
Pros
Warm, full, great note separation and clarity. Single note flurries also articulate well. The notes carry nice, and sound very tight and distinguished.
These sounds better with my still beginner technique and seem gripper as well. If your guitar is all mahogany theses strings will bring out the mid tones and make them brighter.
Cannot attest to the longevity just yet, but looking forward to the journey. One great attribute about monel is that they really last well.
Cons
They are also quite noisy — very squeaky. Others really seem to love them, but they are not my cup of tea.
Highlights
Quality
These strings sound great and are high quality!
Great sound and so far (after a couple of months) they are holding up very well.
They sound bright, clear, and distinct…and no, not like your playing a maple jumbo inside of a beer can.
To my ears, new elixrs are overly bright and seldom mellow.
Price
These went on an all mahogany ibanez artwood grand concert size i bought for $50.
I thought the strings reasonably priced and a representing a good value.
00 because of a hole in the side.
Shipping
Until one day when i needed some and didn’t want to wait.
Competitiveness
Will compare with a set of 80/20, but either way on a mahogany or koa guitar, these hit what i am looking for tone wise.
I recently picked up an old 60s gibson student model (b15, very similar to the lg0) all mahogany and 000 concert-sized.
I'll probably try other martin retros in different gauges as i learn my setup.
I just replaced them with retros and got my sound back.
