Pros & Cons
Pros
Not the loudest acoustic guitar in the world, but it might just be the warmest sounding. I believe the denser sapele (more dense than other mahoganies) makes this happen. The finish is great, and i love the dark sound of sapele.
Both guitars have 1-3/4 nut widths, and wider string spacing than some others. Both play so well either with or without picks, and hard or soft attack.
Sub-grand acoustic electric martin is hard to find especially if you want to avoid hpl siding. I have an entourage rustic dreadnought that is a great guitar for about $350 or so. Hpl sided martin dx1 already with the maple top.
Highlights
Quality
The quality of workmanship and finish is superior.
The harmonics, tone, and quality of the workmanship are undeniable.
Martin obviously has their quality control gig going on!
Of you want a quality martin at an affordable price, this is the way to go.
Price
The craftsmanship is so incredibly solid and it sounds better than guitars 5x it's price.
Packaging/appearance
I then patiently shaved the tusq saddle, making sure not to overdo it.
Competitiveness
I'll warn you the pick-up design with a 9 volt boost gives a lot more umph, than passive pick-ups.
I did not purchase my guitar through amazon, so i can't speak on the websites service/shipping.
Its like a purchased a new longtime friend.
