It replaced several cheaper attempts at an outdoor lock including one made by fortress that had a similar plastic cover but it actually held water in resulting in premature corrosion and the lock seizing

Tried two different locks before this one on outdoor gate

It has a small plastic cap at the bottom of the lock which covers the key hole which also prevents water from seeping into it

The bottom cover pops open and closed very easily too contrary to some reviews with just my finger

Its a good idea to put some research into the project of buying an outdoor padlock that will be exposed to the elements especially where any water that gets into the works will freeze and make it impossible to open the lock at least until youve found your extension cords and hairdryer
