To get good smoke the chip pan must be resting directly on the element

I believe some of these reviews include the digital smokers and the automatic thermostat turns the heating element off at 275 degrees

The analog acts like a fry pan and it goes to 400 degrees but you have to manually control by turning the dial way down

My point is you can go to 400 degrees but you have to turn the dial down to 13 to be in that 275 range

I would prefer temperature settings on the heating dial instead of just the door thermometer but it didnt take long to match up the correct color dial to preferred temperature
