Pros & Cons
Pros
Seems like it is very well insulated and holds the heat very well. The average temp is pretty much what you set.
Cons
The built in thermometer is a hundred degrees off from the actual internal temperature. My cheapest crockpot is only plus or minus 10 degrees. Brisket smoking cancelled today--we'll have to try again in my weber tomorrow morning.
Need lots of shade to operate the controller. Masterbuilt's website is very difficult to impossible file a warranty claim. Warranty is nil after one year.
Stay away from these turds. Extremely disappointed. Design on the wood chip tray is terrible. Wood chip loader is also only able to hold half the amount of wood chips as the prior model.
The weld was broken. The company told me to disasemble the *, unwire it all, and rewire it all. Just got done boxing up the whole mess to return to amazon.
Too much moisture and too little air flow causes bitterness of the final product. Manufacturer's response was inappropriate and unreasonable.
Highlights
Quality
Overall, good build quality, and relatively easy to assemble.
Disadvantages: it seems many out there, including me, have had issues with the electronics and the heating element.
Price
No where near the cost of good quality pellets.
Shipping
My only complaint so far is that the unit was damaged during shipping.
After getting it out i saw that it was damaged on the bottom where it had been droped either in shipping or at the factory.
Packaging/appearance
However it is not worth the effort to repackage it and send it back.
Competitiveness
This is the second masterbuilt of this model i have purchased.
I replaced it with a traeger ironwood 885 first.
As a few months went by, i began to miss my masterbuilt for certain cooks.
I had an older previous masterbuilt 40”.
