Pros & Cons
Pros
Holes made with the drill are clean with a small burr on the backside. Works a charm, the small 1/8 size of the first step essentially made this bit self-centering in the pre-existing holes. Each step depth is small, so it works best on thin material,... Read More
This is one of the sharpest step drills i have ever used. This stepper bit feels solid, cuts well and is sharp as a knife. Seems like a great buy so far for any kind of diy'er.
Cutting oil has greater viscosity than water so it clings to the bit better. It also has cooling properties and will not oxidize. It cuts very well at a low speed without unnecessary pressure.
I wish i had this step drill bit back then since it was incredibly challenging to use just a reamer to accomplish my task. Quick connect set up is also a nice feature.
Highlights
Quality
I am very happy with the performance of this step drill bit and look forward to seeing how long it lasts.
Husband was very happy with the way this worked.
The drill bit total length is 2-5/8 long with the ¼ hex shaft end measuring nearly 1 in length.
With the 1/8-inch pilot initial step size you only need to spot the location of the hole you want to drill.
Price
This is an excellent step-bit at a fantastic price.
Shipping
I was surprised at how fast this cut through steel.
Packaging/appearance
I did find the packaging quite annoying.
Competitiveness

I compared this directly to a no-name generic step bit ordered from some random importer site.

It would just bore through the material with barely a bump

I only had some angle iron to test this with whereas the real test in mind would be a thick sheet of stainless

It cut through the angle just fine i will update this if i ever find a nice scrap of stainless to test with

I did find the packaging quite annoying

I couldnt pull it out of the plastic base by hand and was worried if i slipped even a little bit it would slice my hand right open

I also noticed that the diameter markings look like they would wear off easily
