It appears to be an upgrade from the previous model in two ways

First this newer model is far stronger as it is designed to support 300 pounds of weightstress while the previous model only supported 250 pounds of weightstress

Second the newer model has microban antimicrobial protection which inhibits stains and odors from bacteria mold and mildew on the foam handle while the previous model provided no such protection
