Pros & Cons
Pros
This coffee maker is great - all porcelain - no plastic bits to leech chemicals into your morning brew.
A good coffee grinder is very important. Works like a charm. Works to specification every time.
No severe aftertaste, bitterness or the occasional flavor of the pot. It makes flavorful coffee quickly without fuss or mess.
Cons
The base of the 4 cup cone fits melitta carafe fine, but too small to use with other carafes. The rim around the carafe is uneven/not fully round, so the pour-over system is not usable.
The groves in the top are very slight, and it doesn't matter what kind of paper filter you use. Detailing of the filter is less refined and it may not work as well. The filters occasionally break at the bottom and grounds seep through. This causes the... Read More
The water drips though way too fast. The spout drips when liquid is poured from it. It is not drip free because it no longer is designed with its drip control feature on the spout.
Heavy, clunky and breakable. First one was broken because it had been opened and improperly repacked. Aesthetically they're better than plastic, but i'm going to look for a stainless steel product.
Highlights
Quality
Love the carafe, it doesn’t drip and is well made, easy to clean.
This set seems to be far sturdier.
Finally, after 20 years it got bad chip that cracked down the side.
I read a lot of reviews of pour-overs with glass pots that said the glass was fragile and broke easily.
Price
I wanted an inexpensive pour-over coffee maker, and this little combo fits the bill very nicely.
I was trying to get away from brewing in plastic without spending $300.
Shipping
The first shipment arrived with the handle of the carafe broken off.
I dropped my previous one again while hand washing it and have been eagerly waiting for its availability.
Packaging/appearance
Because neither the external box nor the inner box that held the coffee maker were damaged, i believe there is a quality contro... Read More
Some reviews complained that the unit did not exactly match the picture on the box.
My only disappointment is that the outer shipping box had zero cushioning, and the carafe lid came chipped and unusable.
Competitiveness
To help, the most common ratio for any pre ground store bought coffee is 6oz h2o/2tbsp of coffee.
Not many coffee shops will be able to compete with this simple set up.
I have a plastic melitta pour over and the porcelain model is 1000% better.
