I say as needed as it’s not to be considered an outside power socket you could leave in a rainy position as it’s ip rating is low

I cant comment on alexa integration as i dont use it but the android app has a load of great features and is very easy to use

The meross app works really well and allows switching under a variety of conditions

For instance ive set my outdoor lights to come on at sunset60 mins meaning the lights come on an hour before sunset every day so the garden is lit before daylight has faded too much

Pond lights and garden lights to come on while im here but only garden lights while im away for security

It is currently being used to control outside lights at the end of the garden which is 20 meters from the router and reacts almost instantly to commands on alexa
