I actually usually sleep with the bivy bag fully unzipped, the zipper is a 3/4 length so your legs stay covered.
I have used it in all weathers, so i will start with the good points.

I have noticed that a wider sleeping matt i had did pull the top fabric tight over me which will create cold spots and is something to consider

Secondly the weight and bulk the claimed weight figure is not correct it is approximately 1300gs not the commonly quoted 980gs i have seen on other websites

It is also very bulky it must be the size of a common two man tent when packed in the supplied stuff sack

So to conclude i think the bivy is probably best suited to harsh weather and wet environments on dry summer and spring nights with no chance of rain it is probably a little over kill

If you like the design and can spend a little extra i would look around for a genuine us army item these are fully goretex which should solve the breath ability issue and the quoted weight seems to be a bit lighter about 1kg

But i would suggest if you think it’s going to be a hot and dry night i wouldn’t recommend sleeping with it done up as condensation gets trapped
