Pros

There is a stud fastened flap that will cover to the zipper too if its raining. Being able to put the inflatable mattress inside the bivy is a must for me. The clam shell type lid openening means that in the event of rain you can close it over your he...  Read More

Quality

I actually usually sleep with the bivy bag fully unzipped, the zipper is a 3/4 length so your legs stay covered.

I have used it in all weathers, so i will start with the good points.

Competitiveness

Managed to fit an exped air mat and full size 2 layer sleeping system + pillow.

Firstly the breathability is really lacking compared to some other bivys available, but judging from other reviews, its still q...  Read More

I have noticed that a wider sleeping matt i had did pull the top fabric tight over me which will create cold spots and is something to consider

Now for the bad points and there is a few which stop this bivy being perfect

Secondly the weight and bulk the claimed weight figure is not correct it is approximately 1300gs not the commonly quoted 980gs i have seen on other websites

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

It is also very bulky it must be the size of a common two man tent when packed in the supplied stuff sack

So to conclude i think the bivy is probably best suited to harsh weather and wet environments on dry summer and spring nights with no chance of rain it is probably a little over kill

The only comparable bivy would be a british army surplus one which has it owns good and bad points

If you like the design and can spend a little extra i would look around for a genuine us army item these are fully goretex which should solve the breath ability issue and the quoted weight seems to be a bit lighter about 1kg

But i would suggest if you think it’s going to be a hot and dry night i wouldn’t recommend sleeping with it done up as condensation gets trapped
