Pros & Cons
Pros
This is an oil-based polyurethane varnish. It's a really rich, beautiful color that goes well with the oiled bronze finishes that have been popular lately. Great combination of stain and urethane finish.
Go darker than expected! Mission oak is just a beautiful brown, not reddish.
We just clean those areas and reapply. You need to use it in a well ventilated area because the smell is strong until it dries.
I still have the first furniture that i refinished with polyshades, and it still looks great. It works very well over hardwood.
Cons
The stain and poly combo is sloppy gunk. As you can see in my photos, it's more like red oak or something. Wish i could purchase the old zip guard poly which was a wonderful product.
It's very splotchy. No matter how thin you brush this on, it comes out streaky. If you don't get an even coat, it's very apparent, because the pigment darkens and accentuates the uneven areas.

Brush it on, go over it again with the grain to even it out.
Shipping
Not so good shipping, one of two cans very dented.
Packaging/appearance
Was not that viable on the non-wood surfaces, so we just painted them.
Competitiveness
5) if you want a heavier/richer finish after you've reached the color you want you can apply clear polyurethane over polyshades.

It should not be applied on top of anything that isnt compatible with polyurethane for example putting over an acrylic finish would definitely not work
