Pros & Cons
Pros
Brandon sanderson's the final empire is a steampunk fantasy with a metal-based magic system. Allomancy is a magical ability typically granted only to the nobility. The hero is able to give himself enhanced powers by ingesting metal.
Loved this book. Brilliantly written. Highly, highly recommend. You (or your giftee) won't be disappointed. I have no idea what anyone said, but i laughed anyway.
I heartily recommend the novel for ages 14 and up and to anyone who does not mind depictions of violence in their dystopian fiction. Kindle allows great customization so the experience was solid.
This first trilogy of mistborn sets up a lot of world building for the entire series. Unlike marvel however (particularly of late), these books are phenomenal. The plot is incredible, creates some really good mysteries, and layers so well. It's easy t... Read More
Vin, in particular, undergoes a remarkable transformation from a guarded outsider to a powerful and empowered ally. He isn’t perfect, and some mistakes will cost him dearly.
Cons
dialogue, characterization, believability and the romanticization of the servile/working class. Character names are unnecessarily complicated or too simple to be an actual name. It's like he picked names by stringing letters together from boggle.
Mistborn is nothing more than a stream-of-consciousness rant of frayed ideas. The magic system feels silly and convoluted. Sanderson has the tendency to over explain trivial details while completely dropping the ball on the conveyance of character emo... Read More
It's hard to tell when vin is the only female in the cast (excluding the required catty cardboard cutouts among the noble scene) i understand she had trust issues, but when a partially trained girl kept insisting on following kelsier into more and mor... Read More

Any skaa that falls out of line or refuses to work to the point of exhaustion can expect torture or death by their “noble” masters.
Price
It was worth the money by a long shot.
But the cheap paperback sucks pages are falling out of it left and right.
Competitiveness
People call the big lore bombs and surprises "sandersavalanches" (combination of sanderson and avalanche) and i couldn't agree more.
I don't know if this is common with mass market publications, but i would hope qc was still decent!
