The package containing cartridge had been opened.
The part is indeed brass, is properly stamped moen, and came in original, sealed moen packaging.
The packaging should be easier to open.
Competitiveness
I like this moen cylindrical valve design much better than competitors' spherical ones.
This brass cartridge is superior to the plastic ones i found at lowe's & home depot.
Less than a third of what lowes and home depot want for the same 1200 moen valve.
And most important they won't break when being pulled out for replacement.
