The weak piece appears to be made of abs -much better than the brittle plastic of the original. But, before doing so, wrap some duct tape around the hub to keep from scarring them. Replacement parts are moen and saved approx.
Moen lasts forever! Unlike the reviewers two years ago or so, if this listing is ships from and sold by amazon. They are available and shipped promptly.
The screws in the packet are a little different than the ones that screw into the original knob for 1999 so dont throw them away. These fit great, handles are now tight and straight. I wish theses parts where metal but they fit and worked as designed.... Read More
Cons
Cold water handle goes about 10-15 deg too far back when off. Unless these aren't moen parts (see below) then i'm honked. Until then, these handles are just enough off to annoy me each time i use them.

Note that the black goes on the left handle and the white on the right or you wouldnt be able to position the handle in the off position properly

After i figured out how to disassemble the faucet the fitting of this kit was not too hard as they had the hot and cold parts marked

My sisters faucet handle broke off just like other reviewers have said and her fixture is probably 13 years old

The plastic fins inside the original aerator were also crumbling so moen was apparently using inferior plastic that became brittle after about 10 years

Keep in mind this kit is for faucets manufactured prior to april 2002 which have black cold side and white hot colored adapters under the handles

Faucets manufactured later underwent a design change and have blue cold and red hot colored plastic adapters moen part 100561

If you have problems unscrewing the chrome hub under the handle from the top of the cartridge stem duct tape and channel locks or preferably a cheap 9 dollar strap wrench will do do the trick

Others have said moen will replace parts for free but part was cheap enough that i did not go this route and dont know what evidence they need of ownership or if they want the original broken part etc
