On the circuit board there was a tiny little switch that was operated by the plastic cover i could still kinda poke to operate the door but it was fiddly and annoying

I took out enough screws to access the bottom of the circuit board soldered the two wires from the new switch in parallel with the tiny switch put it all back together and stuck the new switch to the wall where i could press it on the way out

You do need to be geared up to solder to install it
