This provides the 2 way comms so that your external egpu can connect directly to the usb-c of your fancy new monitor.
Works fine going from displayport to usbc, did not try going from usbc to display port.
My monitor is the mac endorsed lg 24" monitor with only thunderbolt (usb c) input.
It may be overkill but it at least works.
Price
This was a cheap and effective way of getting that working.

I do not need anything faster than 60hz as i am not gaming with this cable and the monitors are not capable of more so it works fine for normal office use
