I have macbook pro late 2011 and i am running windows 7 i hook up the mini display port with an hdmi to the samsung smarttv and the audio is working 100plug the hdmi cable to the dvihdmi port of your tvin windows 7 right click next to the clock on the bottom right of the task bar on the speaker icon and select playback devicesfrom the palyback devices choose amd hdmi output select click on properties and go to the advance tab and select studio quality 48hz kand click apply and then okthen right click on the amd hdmi output devices in the playback window and select set as default device communicator thenon your smart tv choose too option in the sound option external speaker as you have one plug to the tv or select tv speakerthen play a music or a movie from your computer then you have according your choice of display clone or separate in the display menu in windows control panel then you have full audio and full video on your tv

I had bought an adapter that works with mac thunderbolt its the same type of connector and it didnt work for me

Just wish we could have done this wirelessly because this requires that the computer be tethered to the tv

Its now 2016 and i still have this adapter and still use it only now with my new 2015 macbook pro retina
