Pros

It's a lot more realistic than most food which is labelled with a date a year off (encouraging food waste) my bag has a best by date of october 2051 so just under 30 years. The food quality is great, and the three-decade shelf life can’t be beat.

Meat chili with some macaroni noodle. Staves off hunger pretty well. Save the mashed potatoes for breakfast or incorporate into another meal.

Thumbs up. Can't go wrong. Very delicious. No complaint here.

Mountain house freeze-dried food is one of our favorite brands. Comes fresh and sealed with very high quality freeze dried bits.

Cons

Nothing near the 10 - 1 & 1/4 servings. That is a huge discrepancy and i feel duped. Won't be buying this item again.

Quality

The quality is better than any other freeze dried food we have tried.

I still will utilize them because i think the quality is worth it to have these on hand for bigger trips or an unforeseen emergency.

For the snobs of this product i'm sorry thomas keller does not make pouch meals yet.

I hope you find my photo and comments helpful in your consideration of this product.

Price

The price is the part that made me hesitant about trying them but i would reorder these after trying them.

Price is a bit steep but part of it is how light this is and how long you can store it.

Right now it is $9 and for that price i would probably hold off.

Packaging/appearance

Resealable zip-top mylar packaging is approximately 9 1/2-inches x 8 3/8 inches x 2 inches thick weighing 6.

I use an alcohol stove and heat the water to just boiling and pour into the pack and seal.

The packaging is updated but this tastes like the same chili mac beef as before from mountain house.

Competitiveness

Our mountain house recommendationsmy friends and i have been backpacking for a long time and have tried many packable meals and brands.

It is nourishing and filling, qualities which are important in food when hiking or in prepper supplies.

It is not a gourmet dinner at a five-star restaurant.

I do think it’s a high-quality choice but it certainly is on the pricey side.
