I used one of these to keep the side connected to the pool cleaner oriented downward, so air could be sucked out efficiently via the vacuum port hose on the other side of the canister, and i used 2 on the hoses to keep them just below the water surface to prevent air getting in the system due to any seal issues at the connectors, or for when pinhole leaks and degradation occurs over time from uv and chemicals.  Read Less
