There are 2 safety mechanisms a lock on the top that slides back to unlock it and a groove on the bottom that the door sits in

I had to install the optional extensions on one side of the gate to fit my opening

From the other reviews i was anticipating some trouble removing the plastic inserts used to hold the anchoring screws and yes i was unable to pry out one of the units as directed with a screwdriver as the plastic broke where the pry point was
