Maybe that was just a defective one but as ive said that is part of what youre getting for this price range

The base connection adjustment twisty thing to raise and lower it and the counterweight if you can call it that are plastic

My only setback was the friction plastic knob that maintains the stands height extension arrived partly split

Finally i managed to glue it and put a couple cable ties around to hold it while the glue set

The only problem i have with it is when you have a heavier mic than normal you cant push the stick at the top all the way or the entire thing will fall over
