Pros & Cons
Pros
This device has a very simple task and it performs that task. Easy to install, this unit performs as expected. Thank god for amazon customer service xoxo.
Plug type b ssd ngff sata drives. It does the job of repurposing old nvme drives. Took out and have a usb adapter so put ssd in that and ran same tests. It's only pcie 3 x1, which won't give the full performance of an x4 drive, but it's a major step u... Read More
Coral ai card into my pc. Will most iikely get another expansion card and m. It's a nice pcie card and works perfect for extra nvme/ssd and usb-a and usb-a, but if u think it good for oculus vr headset.
The quest is detected by the pc as usb3 and charges the device while using. I have an older hp 6005 pro with phenom ii but it does not have usb 3. Gen 2 or 3. Thunderbolt 3 and the upcoming usb 4.
Cons
Device headline states it is x4, is actually x1. The sata 15pin was clearly broken. It reaches the acer logo screen and freezes there.
Highlights
Quality
Simple plug and play, no issues, and decent speeds.
It's solid, well-built, easy to set up, and i'm even able to boot from it.
2 memory but no dedicated slots nor does the mb support bifurcation, only pcie 1x slots.
This is basically a long thin sata drive that looks like a nvme but its not.
Price
Was a low cost easy way to add an nvme slot to a pc without a built-in port.
This is a good card for bumping up your speed from a sata 6gb/s to a cheap nvme like the samsung 980 for $109 right now 2/22/2022 .
Since no reasonably priced external enclosures exist for the largely forgotten and abandoned ahci (not nvme or sata) m.
It was cheaper than buying the usb coral.
Shipping
It shipped promptly and was received in good order.
The expansion card came on time but did not come with instructions.
Packaging/appearance
Is now in the new box but for temporary use thus rocked.
Competitiveness
There i have the best card from startech.
These prices only go down, but as ssd's get more functional at the $100 price point, we are going to see more interest as the 9... Read More
It gets around 400mb/s although the nvme is a samsung and rated much higher.

Make sure you buy the right pcie slot for what your trying to do and if the ssd dosent show up after you install you have to initialize it from the hard drive manager

The expansion card came on time but did not come with instructions

It seems like a pretty straightforward installation but the ssd would not fit into the expansion card

Trick is do it at a certain angle and to push really hard

Anyway a small instruction sheet telling you the angle and how hard to push would be nice
