Pros & Cons
Pros
The materials used on this tent are amazing; though i do wish the tub was 40d. The 6 stakes included are the really nice lightweight ones you'd find at rei (for like $4 apiece lol). A footprint was provided with the tent and appreciated. I like that i... Read More
The + part spins around and it can be a little hard to do them as just one person, but it's manageable if you line it up and then set up the poles. Set-up is pretty standard as noted above, except that rather than the rain fly clipping on to the span ... Read More
Cons
There's a nifty mesh compartment for putting a light or stashing other items above your head, but it eats up the already meager headroom. Another gripe is that the tent looks way more expensive than it actually is.
Highlights
Quality
Well built, so far so good, easy set up and love those stakes
The fastening mechanisms that click the pole to the tent body are well made and won't unclip in wind or rain etc.
Tiny bits of gravel inevitably followed me into the tent and in two days had punched holes in the floor.
We had rain the second day for about four hours and the tent remained watertight.
Price
For the price, this thing is a steal!
Great little tent for a budget or a starter tent.
I got it because (like most people) i couldn't afford a $400 tent.
Not just "for the money", but all around.
Shipping
We arrived at the campsite after dark and i set up the tent for the first time with only a headlamp for light.
I ordered that specially for two month trip.
Packaging/appearance
We (my wife and myself) used it almost every day during our trip, and we enjoyed very easy and quick installation and quick packaging.
Easy to pack away, and fits nicely inside my pack, i only use 6 stakes out of the 10, and don’t use the footprint that it came with.
Light for a 2-person back packing tent.
Competitiveness
We were able to compare the naturehike mongar 2 side-by-side to several other tents of same basic design, price range, weight and features.
As other reviewers mention, this tent compares favorably with much more expensive tents.
While the msr “maybe” slightly more refined the monger 2 is a much better value.
For comparison, i have an rei half-dome (budget) and a big agnes hv ul (premium).
