If you want to protect a sofa/couch, this is not the right product. If you just want something to hang from a couch that some cats might use as a scratching pad, maybe this is for you. I wouldn't train a cat to scratch on the side of your couch….

By no surprise is an ahole and just crawls up under it or goes around it to still scratch the sofa

When we put it on the chair our cat was afraid of it

My cat jumps on top of the back of the chair and goes to town clawing the sisel rope part of the mat instead of using her claws on the chair
