The rubber side is fairly effective for grip while the other side is good for practicing stretches and postures.

Mat has a rubbery scent as it has one side that resembles a microfiber type of feel with the other side having a rubber mat type of feel

Cloth zipper case is washable as the rubber scent can be detected on the cloth case as well

Use it for hot yoga and i sweat and half way in my practice i find myself trying to avoid the mat because it’s slippery
