Okay it is true that you need either a neewer or smallrig cage with lens mounting plate in order to use this lens

And that way you can mount the lens which requires a 17mm thread which the back plate provides

The minimum focusing distance is about 4 inches which lets you back off a subject a bit and still have that look of being very close macro

There is also a threaded end to add small 46mm filters if needed so my next purchase will probably be 46mm neutral density filter and protection filter to keep those pleasing fstops and use in harsh environments respectively
