Pros

Netgear ma401 wireless card is compatible with windows 98/2k/me/xp and windows 2000. No issue using windows xp. Hopefully in the future the xp driver will be updated.

Using netgear card with linksys 4 port wireless cable/dsl router. Cat 5 cable is simply the standard ethernet cable. Uses smc barricade wireless router and netgear ma401 pcmcia wireless card.

It is easy to install. It has a well documented and easily fixed error with open suse (10. Great products and installation software.

Cons

The netgear router is very unstable. It works flawlessly usually, then at a critical moment, it stops working. Biggest problem is lack of support for various laptop power-down modes.

Link quality is excellent, and i have not been disconnected once.

I'm using this card with the netgear mr814 router and i'm very happy with the results.

The card works fine, but do not fully expect compaq's 2500 54g enabled laptop to work with the mr814 router.

The 54g standard should work with the mr814 as it is a 802.

Shipping

I've gotten speeds as high as 120 kb/s, which is as fast as my dsl will go.

Competitiveness

That said, this is a great peice of hardware to get an old laptop on the net, and once i got it set up it worked fine.

Literally-10 minutes out of the box i had this product up and running along with netgear's wireless router (mr814).

Works great with netgear's mr814 wireless router but my new compaq 2500 54g enabled laptop does not work with the router.
